As the river rushes south-southwest toward the waterhole at the center of the grasslands, there are small portions of the bank that are more favorable for crossing. During the rains it is nearly impossible, and countless dangers lurk under the rapids waiting for unsuspecting creatures to make their fatal mistakes. At the crossing points on either side of the river, the banks are smooth with mud and speckled with rounded river pebbles. To the east lay the pride lands and the shadow of a great rock, and to the south-southwest is the clan territory bordered on the horizon by shifting desert sand.
